| The
sun rises from the shores of the Bali Sea at Gaia Oasis Resort where
we hold our annual healing retreats. |
| Local
fishermen follow their ancestral tradition of setting out before dawn
for the day's catch; Middle Left- a rare glimpse of Lombok volcanoes. |
| Specialty
coffees; young fisherman casting from shore; morning offering of rice,
flowers and incense set out each day around any dwelling; and fishing
nets left at an alter for blessing before heading out later in the day. |
| Gecko
in a lamp; gardner climbing a coconut tree to gather fruit and cut down
stray branches; bale by the water. |
| A
morning hike through the forest and across a stream, along a broken
dam, up to a local waterfall. |
| Water
flows from the sacred Lake Batur in great force offering refreshing
hydrotherapy to those willing to climb over. |
| Children
of Tejakula enjoying tourist attention. Right; Evil spirit deterrent
sculpture in progress for Nyepi, Bali's Lunar New Year, the most important
Holy day in Bali- the Day of Silence. The sculptures are built in each
village, paraded around then burned on the beach. |
| Women
walk 3/4 of a km from the road down to the water carrying heavy rocks
on their heads all day long. They walk slowly with elegance and grace,
sit for a short time after releasing their load, then back to work. |
| Calm
waters usually follow the full moon. Fishermen gather in the golden
hour before heading home to their families. |
| Wives
and children wait for the return of the men with the day's catch. Everyone
gives a helping hand. |
| Children
from a local school supported by Gaia Oasis learn traditional Balinese
dances and perform for delighted guests of the hotel. They also learn
how to play instruments. |
| In
winter the moon rises out of the sea when full at Gaia Oasis. Hindu
chants stream from the village. Locals light fires on the beach.
The entire island celebrates
every full moon. |
