What Are the Benefits of CBD?
Many health researchers emphasize the potential medical benefits of CBD, or cannabidiol, a THC-free substance in cannabis that has been found to be very effective in treating certain medical conditions. For most people, however, interest in CBD goes back at least as far as weeds. In the early 20th century, marijuana was often described as a “forgotten drug” by its enthusiasts, who viewed it as less of an evil than the more widely known intoxicants on the market at the time, such as alcohol and heroin. Today, it’s very hard to find anyone arguing against the medical benefits of CBD. If anything, people seem only interested in exploring the benefits of CBD in combination with prescription drugs, primarily marijuana, for which CBD has been shown to have significant medicinal properties.
In general, CBD is one of the most difficult plant substances to obtain because it is an ingredient of the cannabis plant that cannot be found in nature in its true form. So instead of CBD, many manufacturers process cannabis, which they grow under high temperature and pressure, to turn it into a syrup that can be added to various pharmaceuticals and drugs, including Sativex, a popular brand of arthritis medication in the global health organization. However, despite the wide range of cannabis-derived products that include CBD, until recently it was thought to be well tolerated. Anecdotal evidence supports the claim that a small percentage of people do have side effects from taking CBD, but there is no definitive evidence as to whether or not CBD is well tolerated. Only time will tell.
A new study published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Biological Chemistry focuses on CBD’s ability to prevent the inflammatory response that often accompanies neuropathic pain in humans. This new study, conducted by the laboratory of Shou Wu, of the University of Michigan Medical School – assistant research professor and head of the department of neurology, and his team looked at the effects of cannabidiol (a compound made up of cannabidiol) on different types of mice. The study, published in the journal, included a total of eight experimental mice, but two of them were specifically treated in this study. The mice were tested for locomotion, sucrose preference and anxiety.
What makes this study particularly interesting is that the cannabidiol in CBD oil prevented an inflammatory response in mice treated with neuropathic pain (analgesia) without causing the animals any harm. The scientists also confirmed that the inflammatory reaction did not occur until the seventh week after treatment. They found that the absence of CBD reduced the inflammatory response compared to the presence of cannabidiol, which significantly increased the inflammatory response. In addition, CBD significantly reduced locomotor activity in the mice, whereas compared to the presence of Cannabidiol, it resulted in significant locomotor hyperactivity. The absence of inflammatory response was found to be associated with the absence of neurotoxic compounds in the brain that are responsible for the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.
Another benefit of this product from CBD International is its ability to increase the body’s stamina and performance, which is manifested through athletic performance. CBD has been proven to reduce pain, increase endurance, flexibility and muscle strength, improve muscle coordination, and improve sensory processes such as tactile reception and visual acuity. In fact, CBD has been found to be so beneficial in the rehabilitation of injured patients that it has been included in some products used to treat and rehabilitate patients. The benefits of CBD oil are also evident for athletes, as CBD is used to rehabilitate athletes recovering from sports injuries and prevent any further injury or damage to muscles, bones and tendons.
CBD may be best known as an anticonvulsant and antipsychotic. However, it has more beneficial properties than those listed above. For example, it can help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of stroke or heart attack. For this reason, people who have high cholesterol or diabetes should talk to their doctor before using CBD oil or any other natural ingredient. However, it should be noted that side effects from CBD can include dizziness, relaxation, drowsiness, nausea, slurred speech and difficulty thinking.
